چکیده

Biomechanical signaling is a complex interaction of both intracellular and extracellular components. Both passive and active components are involved in the extracellular environment to signal through specific receptors to multiple signaling pathways. This review provides an overview of extracellular matrix, specific receptors, and signaling pathways for biomechanical stimulation in cardiac hypertrophy. (Circ Res. 2002;91:888-898.)

Mechanosignaling in the vasculature: emerging concepts in sensing, transduction and physiological responses.

Cells are constantly exposed to mechanical forces that play a role in modulating cellular structure and function. The cardiovascular system experiences physical forces in the form of shear stress and stretch associated with blood flow and contraction, respectively. These forces are sensed by endothelial cells and cardiomyocytes and lead to responses that control vascular and cardiac homeostasis...

p190 RhoGTPase-activating protein links the β1 integrin/caveolin-1 mechanosignaling complex to RhoA and actin remodeling.

OBJECTIVE To determine whether the β1 integrin/caveolin-1 signaling complex plays a role in shear stress regulation of RhoA activity . METHODS AND RESULTS Hemodynamic shear stress influences the phenotype of the endothelium. Integrins and RhoA are essential components in the process that allows endothelial cells to adapt to flow. However, the signaling mechanisms that relay from integrins to ...

Endothelial Mechanosignaling: Does One Sensor Fit All?

SIGNIFICANCE Forces are important in the cardiovascular system, acting as regulators of vascular physiology and pathology. Residing at the blood vessel interface, cells (endothelial cell, EC) are constantly exposed to vascular forces, including shear stress. Shear stress is the frictional force exerted by blood flow, and its patterns differ based on vessel geometry and type. These patterns rang...

Mechanical signals activate vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 to upregulate endothelial cell proliferation during inflammation.

Signals generated by the dynamic mechanical strain critically regulate endothelial cell proliferation and angiogenesis; however, the molecular basis remains unclear. We investigated the mechanisms by which human dermal microvascular endothelial cells (HDMECs) perceive mechanical signals and relay them intracellularly to regulate gene expression and endothelial cell proliferation. HDMECs were ex...

Spironolactone Inhibits NADPH Oxidase-Mediated Oxidative Stress and Dysregulation of the Endothelial NO Synthase in Human Endothelial Cells

Accumulating evidence indicates that aldosterone plays a critical role in the mediation of oxidative stress and vascular damage. NADPH oxidase has been recognized as a major source of oxidative stress in vasculature. However, the relation between NADPH oxidase in aldosterone-mediated oxidative stress in endothelial cells remains to be ascertained. The present study aimed to investigate the rel...
